Metrotown And Central Park

With our beautiful fall weather here in Vancouver calling to me to get out of the house and do something, I decided a trip out to Burnaby, and a visit to Metrotown just might be the way to spend a few hours on this Saturday afternoon. Located due east of the City of Vancouver, Burnaby is the third largest city by population in British Columbia, and Metrotown is the second largest mall in Canada (the largest in BC). When Vancouver was undergoing its early growth, Burnaby was one of the first-tier bedroom community suburbs of the city along with North Vancouver and Richmond. Nowadays, with Port Moody, Coquitlam, and New Westminster  to the east of Burnaby, the previously-mentioned Richmond to the South, and both North and West Vancouver to the North, and finally Vancouver City to the west, Burnaby is truly at the center of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, of which it is the seat, its board calling itself, Metro Vancouver. There are actually several places of note in Burnaby that I plan to do later articles on, but for today I thought I would just gather up a quick gallery of pictures at Metrotown, and then a few more at Central Park on my way home.

I walked over to the Skytrain at the Stadium terminal, and 15 minutes later got off one stop early at the Patterson St. station. This was so I could enjoy the sun and the short walk comprising the last little way to the mall, and take a pause for a few minutes at the Burnaby Civic Center, mainly because I like walking through that area, but also to check out some new development I had noticed as the train crossed into Burnaby. I was following along the path underneath the overhead skytrain tracks and something in the ditch between myself and the edge of Central Park caught my eye, so I wandered over to check that out. What I discovered was some of the most amazing fungus, so I snapped a few pictures of it, and then continued on my way. But really, there’s no reason to bore you with all this blabbering when you can see it all for yourself just by checking out the little gallery that follows. Ladies and gentlemen, after you.

And there you have it, my little afternoon trip to Burnaby, Metrotown, The Burnaby Civic Center, and Central Park. By the way, no squirrels were harmed in the making of the above-shown gallery, although I did have to refuse his kind offer to come and be my new room-mate. Those darn squirrels are always real polite for the first few days, and then its into your peanut butter, and your shiny objects start disappearing, and…well you know what I mean. So I hope you enjoyed the gallery, and now it’s time for me to hit the road, so, until next time…
